Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s most picturesque and diverse wildlife reserves, set at the base of the Great Rift Valley’s dramatic escarpment. Though compact in size, the park boasts an incredible range of habitats—from lush groundwater forests and acacia woodlands to hot springs and the shimmering alkaline waters of Lake Manyara itself.
The park is world-famous for its rare tree-climbing lions, often seen lounging on branches in the shade. It is also a haven for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, and troops of baboons and blue monkeys that thrive in the forested areas. Lake Manyara’s birdlife is exceptional, with flamingos, pelicans, storks, and more than 400 bird species creating a paradise for birdwatchers.
Lake Manyara National Park is a gem of Tanzania’s northern safari circuit—beautiful, varied, and full of unexpected wildlife encounters.
